    1. Laura is a mom, she is a wife, she has a picture perfect lifee also works at End of the Line End of the Line is a phone center for people that have reached the end of hope They have no good days that they can see.You would think this would make Laura a good woman wouldn t you You would be wrong Because Laura is a batshit crazy woman. She uses her job at End of the Line to find her special people, the ones that have no will to go on Then she talks them into killing themselves with her on the phone [...]

    2. Oohh what a dark and oftentimes uncomfortable read this one was, but I really do love to be pushed to my limits while reading and I always appreciate reading about a new, fresh subject and The Good Samaritan most definitely provides all of the above It s also disturbing, dark and filled with characters that you will alternate between hating and even sympathizing with, but they are all highly complex and incredibly well drawn making for a truly enthralling read. This is told via dual narratives, t [...]

    3. There is a suicide hotline called End of the Line, and you ll know when you ve reached it The volunteers who man the lines are there to listen One of the volunteers is Laura, wife, mother of three, non threatening, helpful, and always in control She cares You have no idea how much A riveting game of cat and mouse, who is the victim and who is the prey Changeable, or one and the same Great psychological suspense that hit all the right notes for me.

    4. 5 Wonderful StarsWow, such an amazing story I loved LOVED it It was my second read by this author but as my previous read by him wasn t that good, this one compensated it This book took me out of my comfort zone pushed me so hard and let me tell you this one was an uncomfortable read but I m glad I read it, it was definitely worth it It was a really good psychological thriller, a page turner one, I couldn t put it down and I was on the edge of my seat all the time Well done Mr Marrs Laura works [...]

    5. I think this is one of the few times where an author has left me speechless In all honesty, I really do not know how I feel about this book I even slept on it hoping that my feelings would become clearer. The reason for my dilemma I loved the book but at the same time I hated it Why Laura I hated everything about her and the further into the story I got the wound up and angry I got She preys on people at their weakest time Having suffered with depression myself, I could easily relate to people t [...]

    6. This is the 4th book I ve read by John Marrs and those eagle eyed readers will notice that it s the 3rd book I have a cameo part in and a lovely mention in the acknowledgements I was asked to read this book months ago before the editing and proof readers had been through it, but I declined because if I m honest I love John s stories so much I wanted to wait for the final version and enjoy it like any other reader would.Boy am I glad I waited The Good Samaritan has all the trademarks of a Marrs N [...]

    7. This is unquestionably one of the best books I have read this year and I am now the newest fan of John Marrs.Laura volunteers her time at the End Of The Line suicide line She s there to listen, not to try to talk people out of committing suicide The people who call are looking for someone to care, to tell them that life is worth living Some call just to say goodbye. However, Laura is a little different She doesn t want them to turn away from the thought of suicide she actually wants to help them [...]

    8. Wow, what a chilling thriller This book was very suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat I have to admit it was a tad disturbing since I have had to use the suicide crisis line in my past but it was still a highly enjoyable book This book made me think and made the hairs on the back of my neck stick straight up Definitely recommend this psychological thriller

    9. WowI mean really wow This was one of the most disturbing books I have ever read Could not put it down Many others have written reviews so I don t feel I need to add my two cents, but, WOW

    10. Trigger warning Suicide I will save them from themselves That is what I am a saviour of lost souls If you are looking psychological thriller, something really dark, controversial, well written and uncomfortably captivating, this is definitely the book for you This will be a book you will NEVER forget Although I haven t read a John Marrs book before, I really enjoyed his writing and this novel and will be seeking novels from him in the future.Volunteers at End of the Line hotline are there to li [...]

    11. I absolutely loved John Marrs last book The One so I had high hopes for his latest offering The Good Samaritan Oh my what a seriously twisted and original psychological thriller The Good Samaritan turned out to be The title alone wrong foots you, if you were thinking you were going to be reading a book about a Good Samaritan who volunteers to help others in distress you wouldn t be wrong, but there again we are talking about a book written by John Marrs here, so expect the unexpected Devilishly [...]

    12. Trigger alerts include suicide and depression If you are feeling suicidal I d encourage you to go to befrienders and find the details of an organisation in your area that can help Helpline volunteers are truly remarkable people who deserve way credit than they receive There s a visceral quality toJohn Marrs writing that I love I read the blurb and immediately judged Laura I mean, there you are, at your wits end and you call End of the Line A woman named Laura picks up the phone and her voice is [...]

    13. Lemme start this review off with THE BIGGEST TRIGGER WARNING EVER If you or a loved one has considered or completed suicide, DO NOT read this book Really Like, not even the first chapter It s not a light TW, this is a full throated TW Just don t That being said, if suicide is not a trigger for you this book is horrifyingly good How shall I describe it At the very beginning, It s like a thriller from the POV of the bad guy Which is AWESOME And then it turns into a tale of revenge and how it destr [...]

    14. Be prepared to be taken out of your comfort zone with the latest John Marrs thriller I was a little worried about the subject matter to begin with but pretty soon I became completely gripped by the many twists and turns of this unsettling storyline I was intrigued to discover how John Marrs would utilise Laura s similar talents on the phone but I have to say that her own particular technique was rather extreme When I received my copy of The Good Samaritan there wasn t a book blurb attached so I [...]

    15. This the most deliciously entertaining, and horrifying, revenge thriller that I ve read in ages Almost impossible to put down, be sure to set aside a good chunk of time so that you can read it all in one setting if you dare If you are feeling terribly depressed and thinking that suicide might be the answer to your situation, DON T CALL LAURA Laura volunteers at a hotline call in named End of the Line and her goal isn t to help you cope, to help you overcome the circumstances you re in, or even g [...]

    16. HOT DAMN What a deliciously devious little novel this is John Marrs has created a wicked villain in Laura She is absolutely awful but you will love to hate her I was completely gripped from beginning to end Laura works at the End of the Line call center where you re a friendly voice and comforting shoulder to potential suicide victims Unbeknownst to all around her but this is where she gets her kicks by convincing people that they are not worthy of life and essentially assisting them in their su [...]

    17. I will save them from themselves That is what I am a saviour of lost souls Some of the best killers are the master manipulators the ones who use others to do their own bidding They masterfully control the situations around them and believe the lies they tell While some may feel that they are doing good in the world, they really are only doing what is best for their own agenda They are dangerous, selfish, intelligent and usually stay under the radar Take a look around you there s probably someone [...]

    18. I picked The Good Samaritan because of its premise A woman who works for a suicide helpline and actually actively tries to talk people calling her into taking their own lives that s one dark premise, one dark character and I was intrigued It needs a trigger warning of course, for suicide Don t even think about diving into this one if that s a sore subject.I wasn t a big fan of the book in the end I hated the main character with a passion and there was nothing redeemable about her She just made m [...]

    19. Oh my, what a dark psychological tale it is The characters are twisted and often times its disturbing to place your conscience aside and be inside head of the characters What is it about Volunteers at End Of The Line suicide line are there to treat the callers with kindness, respect and professionalism They are there to listen and assure them that life is worth living However, Laura is different She bids her time volunteering potential candidates to end their life She is manipulative and convinc [...]

    20. 4 Holy moly I did not expect this book to be as great as it was Well written, packed full of suspense and layer upon layer of unexpected revelations I literally gasped out loud at some of the plot twists My reaction to this book Definitely recommend

    21. 4.5 StarsJohn Marrs has created one of the creepiest and most disturbing characters I have come across in years taking center stage in his latest riveting and twisty psychological literary suspense thriller, THE GOOD SAMARITAN Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth Muhammad AliSet in Northamptonshire,Laura has worked at End of the Linefor the last four and half years She communicates with the troubled souls The vulnerable The night shift When darkness falls, so do thei [...]

    22. Laura volunteers at End of the Line, a suicide helpline While other volunteers are helping people who call in, Laura does everything she can to convince them that suicide is the best, most sensible option She keeps record of how many last breaths she has heard over the phone To the world, Laura seems like a perfectly average human being She has nothing but wonderful things to say about her husband and three children and she is loved by all her coworkers She is even nicknamed the Helpline Heroine [...]

    23. I just loved this book I just new it was a good one from the 1st page Who could resist it A good samaritan who doesn t try and help you get better but rather than to kill yourself It was a great thriller Lots of twists and turns that went through the whole book right until the end The main characters were fantastic, both competing to out do each other One pshycotic than the next This is defo going to be a no 1 on the hit list when it comes out.

    24. Laura works as a volunteer at an organization called End of the Line, a type of Samaritans, where distressed and suicidal people can speak and share their problems Laura and her co workers are not there to advise or suggest but rather act as a kind of online friend or last resort to those who find the burdens of modern day living too much to cope with However it soon becomes apparent that Laura is than happy to counsel and indeed support those who wish to end their lives, indeed she is a woman [...]

    25. The Good Samaritan is about a nasty, bitter and deluded woman, Laura, who abuses her position at a Samaritans type call centre and an incredibly stupid man, Ryan, whose life she has turned upside down Neither character is in any way likeable and I can t recall any redeeming qualities Spending almost 400 pages with these two is a long slog The first part of the book follows Laura s life in detail and is quite tedious, before Ryan enters proceedings to have his say Later on the chapters alternate [...]

    26. I was blown away to be given the opportunity to read an ARC of The Good Samaritan.Once again John Marrs has written a totally original, totally gripping book I love his writing style and the way he can engage you with the most odious, messed up characters and make you care The writing, pacing and clever, clever plot were spot on I was immediately intrigued and sucked into the story and resented every second that sleep and life prevented me reading this fabulously disturbing book There is no doub [...]

    27. DNF 55%Initially I was gripped, the prologue immediate grabbed my attention with its emotional intensity and as Laura s account builds so does the suspense and intensity And then when you re eager for , it switches to Ryan s account which made the plot lose its momentum as the story basically starts again I found this part of the plot far too repetitive and I skim read most of it.Part two I just couldn t get that momentum back and lost complete interest in what was happening as as such, my desir [...]

    28. I REALLY hope there are not actually people like Laura existing in the worldThoroughly enjoyed this I kept thinking I knew what was going to happen, and then something else would pop up and catch me off guard The characters were well written Laura was possibly one of the most awful characters I ve ever read, and yet somehow I liked reading about her Her head was an interesting place to live for a little while Ryan also had me simultaneously crying for him and being frustrated by him My first Joh [...]

    30. Earlier this year, I read The One by John Marrs this book stuck with me for the entire year I compared other books to it I talked about it with my friends So, when I realized The Good Samaritan by John Marrs was being published this month, it skyrocketed to the top of my TBR pile, especially after reading several rave reviews about this title on its blog tour The novel surrounds Laura, a woman who volunteers at a suicide hotline with some serious ulterior motives She does not want to provide any [...]
